To Hell With The Middleclass
Thu May 01, 2008 at 05:05:57 PM PDT
I am sick and tired of the middle class being singled out as the most important people that our politicians must appeal to. What about the working class such as myself? What about the poor? What is up with the dismissal of these two groups? My goodness, the majority of Americans live in apartments NOT CONDOS or HOMES! We can't all have homes with a white picket fense now can we? Or did I miss something in economics 101?
One Payer Health Care System Referendum Idea
Fri Feb 22, 2008 at 03:53:00 PM PDT
All progressives I know and even a few conservatives—very few—would prefer to see a one payer system instead of the patchwork horror that both Clinton and Obama are pushing for. The sad fact is that the health insurance industry would prefer going bankrupt to fight it with every penny in their coffers. Look what they did to Clinton when she first tried to reform health care—and these vultures were given a place at the table. They called it "Hillarycare", and they still do.
Obama has been accused by the Clinton camp of flip flopping on his support for a single payer system. The fact of the matter is that he knows full well that he would open himself up to being accused of being a socialist, or worse, a communist by the Republicans—and God only know what the insurance cabal would do to him.
I think there is a solution to this political quagmire.
Ok, Let's Compromise: Amnesty for Illegal Aliens but removing "Anchor" Babies.
Thu Mar 22, 2007 at 06:00:35 PM PDT
The illegal alien debate is really problematic for both Repuklicans and Democrats. I am very liberal but I really object to all the illegal aliens coming over the border. Be they Mexican, Asian, Irish or otherwise. It peeves me so much because they used to only take jobs away from teens. But now contruction? This is really out of control. I suggest a compromise. Amnesty for everyone here for at least five years without a criminal record and no automatic citizenship for those born in the United State from here on forward. How does that sound?
It works for me even if I prefer they all be deported. I have no problem paying more for lettuce and fruits. At least I know a native/legal American is making a better living.
And I am very liberal except on this issue, communist almost and pro choice and pro gay. Well, you know what I mean.
Edit: I think this is a serious topic. I believe the anchor baby has the potential to bring everyone together. If the United States adopted this it would have a double effect of discouraging illegal immigration. I really think illegal immigration benefits big business more. We have to get a handle on that. Lets not destroy ourselves with compassion.
Making Democrats Unbeatable.
Sat Nov 11, 2006 at 12:35:52 PM PDT
We have simply got to take the gun control issue away from the Republicans. The Democratic Party must make it clear in no uncertain terms that they support the right of law-abiding citizens to own guns. Requiring registration of all gun owners should not be the issue, only requiring all gun dealers to verify against criminal records of all purchases. When we consider that the nation was heading--and still could--towards a fascist state this really is a no-brainer.
Standing Ovations

I cannot understand why the democrats couldn't just SIT DOWN for everything and anything Bush said in his speach.
It boggles the mind that the democrats are so spineless.
They could explain that since Bush is such a proven liar they were just there to listen. This is just rant, so recommend at your own risk.
Or did any diary suggest this tactic?

Richard Nixon on Presidential power, or is that the Unitary
Executive?
August 15, 1973 http://watergate.info/...
Only last year, the Supreme Court said that implicit in
the President's constitutional duty is "the power to protect our Government
against those who would subvert or overthrow it by unlawful means," How to
carry out this duty is often a delicate question to which there is no easy
answer.

Henry Hyde (R-Ill.):
"This isn't a matter of setting the bar too high; it's a matter of securing the basic structure of our freedom...which is the rule of law.
"No man or woman, no matter how highly placed, no matter how effective a communicator, no matter how gifted a manipulator of opinion or winner of votes, can be above the law in a democracy. That is not a counsel of perfection. That is a rock-bottom, irreducible principle of our public life.
Wiretaps require a court order according to Bush
Sat Jan 21, 2006 at 05:04:14 PM PDT
George W Bush, April 19, 2004
"For years, law enforcement used so-called roving wire taps to investigate organized crime. You see, what that meant is if you got a wire tap by court order -- and, by the way, everything you hear about requires court order, requires there to be permission from a FISA court, for example."
President Bush -- April 20, 2004:
"Secondly, there are such things as roving wiretaps. Now, by the way, any time you hear the United States government talking about wiretap, it requires -- a wiretap requires a court order. Nothing has changed, by the way. When we're talking about chasing down terrorists, we're talking about getting a court order before we do so. It's important for our fellow citizens to understand, when you think Patriot Act, constitutional guarantees are in place when it comes to doing what is necessary to protect our homeland, because we value the Constitution."
